INVERTERS: Why They Are Increasingly Becoming A Necessity In Nigeria.
Are you struggling with lack of electricity or high cost of electricity?
Do you need to power your company, house or hotel?
With the present situation of things – poor electricity, FOREX rate, fuel hike, rapid population growth, increase in industrial activities- getting an inverter might just be the best solution for everyone.
We all know Nigeria is a top oil-producing nation yet we still have poor electricity for business and domestic needs mainly because of improper management and planning of our resources and the fact that we have relied too much on fuel/one source of electricity for too long. Of course, there are other alternatives. Hence, let’s look into Inverters and a little bit of renewable energy.
I’m guessing most of us know what inverters are; especially in those days when people used to say inverters were only meant for the wealthy. Things are different now, as a matter of fact, an inverter should be a basic electronic appliance in homes and businesses for the purpose of generating electricity.
But, why should anyone have an inverter? What are its benefits?
There are numerous benefits of inverters over conventional generators and PHCN, so, I’ll briefly discuss a few of its major benefits:
- Cost-effective: Inverters save you money. For instance, if you spend N31, 000 every month for fueling your generator, by the end of the year, you have spent roughly N372, 000. However, if you buy our premium inverter you would have saved more than half the cost of fueling your generator.
- Life span: You can simply buy an inverter that suits your budget/choice and you can enjoy it for as long as 11 years. How many generators have that long a life span? I don’t think there are any though…
- Little or no maintenance: Inverters require reduced maintenance compared to conventional generators. That is pretty economical if you ask me, I mean performance with minimal maintenance. FANTASTIC!
- Steady supply of power: With inverters, there is nothing like surges, spikes or high current which can destroy appliances. Inverters produce higher-quality power than conventional units; thus reducing the risk of destroyed appliances and household fires caused by power surges.
- Zero pollution: Conventional generators emit harmful exhausts into our environment, coupled with the noise that accompanies it. Isn’t that air and noise pollution at the same time? YES it is but we don’t have to live with all that if we actually use inverters because they generate very little heat and do not produce noise or pollutants.
- Inverters are very efficient, reliable and easy to set up.
However, there are three types of inverters;
- The modified sine wave inverters– They are the most affordable and are the best inverters for homes as they are efficient enough to provide power to the normal home requirement.
- The True sine wave inverters– They provide better power as compared to the modified sine wave inverters for homes. These types of home inverters use a battery of a larger capacity and are best employed for power sensitive appliances like refrigerators, air conditioners, washing machines, etc. They are very reliable but more expensive than the former.
- The solar inverter– In these types of inverters, solar energy is collected during the daytime and used at time of need after being converted into electrical energy. They are easy to install and also very efficient e.g. Grid -tie inverters, stand-alone inverters and battery back-up inverters.
Based on our brief description of the types of inverters, you can easily make your choice based on your budget or preference.
However, let me briefly dash into another alternative form of power where many Nigerians have failed to take advantage of and this is where renewable energy comes in. Solar inverters are a form of renewable energy because it obtains its energy from natural resources (sunlight) which are naturally replenished on a human timescale.
Hence, renewable energy replaces conventional fuels in four areas:
- Electricity
- Motor fuels
- Air and water heating/cooling
- Rural (off-grid) energy services.
In some other parts of the world like India, China, US, it is now being seen as a cost-effective development and solution for developed/developing countries and we can also look into this process here in Nigeria too.
The United States of America is the highest consumer of fuel, but they managed the situation efficiently with the use of alternative sources of energy, the use of fuel-efficient vehicles etc. Meanwhile, Nigeria has the potential to exploit its abundant solar energy resources all year round considering its geographic location especially in the northern parts like Borno, Abuja, hugely supporting the use of solar energy. The use of renewable energy such in general is reliable and will never run out because it is constantly being replenished from natural resources. We need to cultivate the use of alternative sources of energy (e.g. solar inverters) in Nigeria because they are a means of making lives easier and we shouldn’t hesitate to utilize it.
In the long run, getting an inverter is a very smart move. Do you have an inverter? If not, you can check out our range of inverters here http://ow.ly/GMBP3015bet. CIAO!
